Smart Pool Alarm - How “Pool Guarding” Works

An outdoor swimming pool is a common feature in many family houses, as well as a smart home solution. From here, it's just a step towards integrating the pool into the smart home ecosystem, which includes all the usual pool requirements  - from automatic filtration with water quality monitoring, to maintaining a comfortable temperature by connecting to a heat pump, to integrating pool lighting into exterior scenes.

An important part of connecting the pool with the house is also its security. There are certain dangers connected with owning the pool, for example when small children are around. The pool cover can bring some peace of mind, and also prevents pollution. A standard smart house always knows whether the pool cover is open or closed, according to the magnetic stops. If you do not guard the pool and someone opens the cover, you will receive a notification in the mobile application. Of course, the pool guard is password protected and can only be accessed by users who have the appropriate permissions. Usually parents!

In case the cover is already open and you are concerned that a child may fall into the pool, the second level of security comes into place. A system of cameras and infrared barriers monitors movement in the pool area. The other area around the pool is ignored, so if a person moves in the pool area and the pool is guarded, a home alarm is triggered immediately.

The home alarm does not inform the central security desk (CSD) but ensures that the alarm starts flashing so that even if you have headphones on, you know that a problem has occurred.  All residents of the house also receive a notification on both mobile devices and control tablets. If the house includes a central audio system, the type of event is played repeatedly from the speakers in the house. Thanks to this, it is possible to react immediately to the situation.

At the request of the owners, the pool can be guarded automatically if the pool has not been used in the previous 30 minutes. Of course, it is still possible to perform the action manually, using a switch located near the pool. The user can perform this operation without entering the confirmation code so that it does not cause unnecessary delay. In addition to this function, if the user decides to close the pool cover, the system also checks that there was no movement in the pool area in the previous 1 minute. Closing the cover is of course done with a visual inspection of the pool, but the additional inspection is an assurance to the owner that he did not miss anything.

MONITORING. A system of cameras and infrared barriers (invisible light rays) monitors the movement inside the pool while ignoring the surrounding area.

ACTIVATION. If you have a guarded pool and a person enters the monitored area, an alarm is triggered immediately.

ALARM. A smart pool alarm turns on a  siren, which is likely to be heard by all the people present in the garden and in the house. In addition, the lights will start flashing to let you know that there is a problem, even if you have headphones on, for example, and do not hear the alarm.

MOBILE PHONE. At the same time, you will see a message on your mobile phone and tablet that there has been registered movement in the pool.

SPEAKERS. If you also have a central audio system at home, the connected speakers will start playing the relevant information repeatedly.

Thanks to the smart pool alarm, you are made aware and can react immediately to the situation. For example, you will immediately put down lemonade on the table and run back to the garden, saving precious seconds when you are warned.

Smarteon's tip: Double - Check before closing the cover

We set the parameters of the security system individually, on request. For example, the pool can be automatically guarded every time it has not been used in the last 30 minutes. Of course, the owner can still perform the action manually, using a nearby switch, even without a confirmation code, so that he does not have to linger unnecessarily.

We also recommend the following safety option: If you decide to close the pool cover, the system will check that it has not detected any movement in the pool during the previous minute. In similar situations, of course, you check the water surface with your own eyes, but clever technologies can check continuously and can assure you that you have really not missed anything.
